what is reiki?

Reik is a Japanese art of alternative healing applied for spiritual, emotional and physical healing to living beings. This energy is electromagnetic in nature. It is applied by “laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us where practitioner act as a Reiki channel. He directs the energy through him and guides it through his hands to his palms and transfers it to the living being, he is healing.

The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power", which is the Universal energy surrounding everyone and Ki which is "life force energy" which is inside all living beings. So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."

This energy is referred to as ‘life force energy’ If one's "life force energy" is low or blocked, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

Today there are various systems of reiki practiced. There are reiki systems that come directly from Japan (‘eastern reiki’), reiki systems that come from Japan via the US (‘western reiki’), reiki systems that combine eastern and western reiki such as Gendai Reiki and reiki systems that have evolved from western reiki such as Karuna, Tera-mai, Seichim etc. Eastern reiki tends to have a more ‘technical’ approach. I have learnt eastern Reiki and I Practice and teach Usui-do system of Reiki

Someone who is practicing reiki should be able to trace his or her lineage of teachers back to Dr Usui either via Mrs Takata or Dr Hayashi or other students of Dr Usui via Usui-do or the Japanese reiki Gakkai. By the end of his life Dr Usui had taught many students and there are many potential lineages.
